Delay to ‘Highlander’ Mk.5s

FOLLOWING a series of high-profile delays, failures and cancellations due to issues with its CAF-built Mk.5 stock, Caledonian Sleeper has put back the introduction of the new trains on its ‘Highlander’ route until at least September.

This gives a stay of execution to the Mk.2-based train from Euston to Inverness, Aberdeen and Fort William.

Training continues on the ‘Highlander’ route despite the entry to service being put back. On June 26, Nos. 73969+73966 head north through Craigo (Angus) with the first rake of Caledonian Sleeper Mk.5s to reach Aberdeen. Jim Ramsay

A statement by CS said: “Our decision has been taken to allow CAF to complete the further work required on the carriages to ensure that they are fit for purpose to be accepted into service.
