MODELLER: Hattons announces rolling stock

The Warwell wagon and Beilhack snowplough are to be produced in ‘OO’ gauge by the Liverpudlian retailer.

THE range of own-brand commissioned models offered by Hattons is set to expand significantly after the retailer announced two new rolling stock items during October.

The first of these is the much-requested Ministry of Defence 50t bogie well wagon, better known as the Warwell, which will appear in both 4mm and 7mm. The highly detailed models will include all of the refinements expected today, including sprung buffers and many separate parts.

In ‘OO’ gauge, no fewer than 20 models are planned, these covering the amazing 74-year lifespan of the wagons from their 1940s as-built War Department condition with diamond-frame bogies through to today’s modernised version with Gloucester GPS bogies. The Warwells acquired by BR and modified with bolsters or false decks to carry steel and rail will also be produced, as will wagons in departmental liveries. Due for release in late 2017, pristine wagons are priced £33 with weathered versions at £37.
