THE Guildex exhibition at the beginning of September saw Heljan announce a further ambitious expansion of its ‘O’ gauge range with plans unveiled to introduce no fewer than four different first-generation DMU classes during 2017-18. The chosen designs all have a strong Western Region connection and will go well with the existing diesel hydraulic locos.
The most surprising choice, and one that will no doubt cause some envy in other scales, is the Swindon-built Class 120, the cross-country DMUs being a regular contender for most-wanted D&E model in polls. Also found on other regions, notably the Scottish, Heljan is planning to release both two-car and three-car sets during 2018. Currently planned liveries for both formations are BR green with either half-yellow panels or full yellow ends and BR blue/grey, with Tower Models commissioning BR green with speed whiskers. Projected RRPs are £800 for the two-car and £1100 for the three-car.
