THE Government has issued an invitation to tender to the five bidders hoping to build the initial fleet of trains for HS2. The winner will design, build, test and maintain at least 54 high-speed trains, which will be based at a new depot at Washwood Heath in Birmingham.
The shortlisted companies – which are Alstom, Bombardier and Hitachi, CAF, Talgo, and Siemens – now have six months to submit their bids.
A detailed Train Technical Specification (TTS) has been published on the Government’s main website (www.gov.uk) to ensure greater visibility of the process and to help potential supply chain organisations.
